Ask your state representative and senator to support LD 1934:
The Dark Sky bill is bi-partisan, and would require public improvements and new projects to be dark sky compliant. For more talking points see attachment below!!
Ask Collins and King to oppose any anti Inflation Reduction Act Cuts in the “One Big Beautiful Bill”:
As negotiations go forward on budget reconciliation, Third Act recommends opposing any cuts to the IRA, in particular the solar consumer credit provisions in the bill.
Make the point to Collins and King that they can obstruct further Senate action at any time on any matter:
They need 30 Senators to agree to force a Congressional Review Act resolution which requires 10 hours of debate on the Senate floor. This is a means of stopping business as usual in the Senate. For more on this tactic check out the article in The American Prospect.
Call Golden’s Office and thank him for his vote on the budget bill and for running.
I know, we usually have not liked Golden’s positions. This is a big one, and he needs to know we appreciate the move. Perhaps something is shifting for him?
Call Senators King and Collins and ask them to protect Medicare and Medicaid.
They can change the language of the budget bill coming from the House and lower the tax cuts while protecting our safety net. This is a no-brainer for Maine, with the oldest population in the country. Secondly ask them to have their staff comb the bill for non-budget items (such as the provision that would limit federal judges' ability to enforce nationwide injunctions, potentially affecting all federal cases, not just immigration.) This change could make it more difficult for courts to hold government officials accountable for violating court orders. AI could run through this bill in seconds.
Call our Congressional Delegation to speak out against the Suspension of Habeas Corpus:
Stephen Miller, Trump’s Nosferatu-like homeland security advisor and White House deputy chief of staff for policy,
has called for the suspension of Habeas Corpus which is the beginning of Martial Law. This would allow the government to detain and deport citizens without due process. Only Congress has the authority to suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus, as stated in the U.S. Constitution. This suspension is permitted only in cases of rebellion or invasion when public safety requires it.

Call Our Congressional Delegation to oppose cuts to PBS and NPR:
On May 1st Trump signed an executive order cutting off funding for both of these entities. This is illegal as many of his executive orders are as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is not subject to Executive Orders. Most of the 1.1 billion dollars cut funds small local stations in rural areas who depend on this news service. Go to 5calls.org for more talking points.
